South Indian Style Dhal

Tangy alternative to the classic Tarka Dhal.

Serves: 4 | Suitable for vegetarians

South Indian Style Dhal


  1. Follow the instruction on the Tarka Dhal pack.
  2. Meanwhile, soak the tamarind in water and strain to make 2 tbsp tamarind pulp.
  3. Once the lentils are cooked, add the tamarind and mix well.
  4. Fry the spices and garlic (as you would for the Tarka Dhal recipe), then add the coconut and fry for 30 seconds or until brown.
  5. Add this to the lentils and serve with rice and yoghurt.
