To kick off 2016 why don't you try one of our brand new side dishes? The Chana Masala is a dry, tangy chickpea dish, with onions and tomatoes. Chana Masala is a staple dish all across India (with varying recipes), from a home-cooked breakfast in Kerala to a quick snack from a vibrant streetfood stall in Delhi. We’ve taken influence from recipes in the North of India and used fragrant Garam Masala and Amchur (Mango) Powder to give this dish its signature tang.
Top Tips for any time of day!
Our Chana Masala can be served as an accompaniment to other dishes at dinner, as a light lunch, or even for breakfast:
- Breakfast: Have it for breakfast with either chapatis or on toast (instead of baked beans), with a nice dollop of yoghurt.
- Lunch: Use it as a filling for a flat bread or wrap, along with finely sliced red onion and grated carrot.
- Snack: Turn it into a dip by blitzing it in a food processor with a splash of water and olive oil. Serve with carrot or cucumber sticks.
- Dinner: Use any leftovers to bulk out and add flavour to simple soups.
It’s nice to have a break from the onslaught of rich Christmas food. Maybe you’re doing #Veganuary? #MeatFreeMonday? #HealthyJanuary? Rafi’s to the rescue! Our Chana Masala is suitable for vegetarians, vegans and coeliacs as well. Chickpeas are very healthy and a great source of protein and fibre, a perfect healthy dish to start 2016!
