Made using sundried shrimps, 'belacan' as it is know as in Malaysia, is used all across the far east. It is not made for immediate consumption as it is a raw product. Shrimp paste has a very strong smell which some may find unpleasant. Once cooked it imparts a wonderful depth of flavour and sweet after taste. It is also found in many dipping sauces and marinades.
